The film ‘Swinging’ is designed in response to In Praise of Shadow by Junichiro Tanizaki. I was inspired by a sense of nostalgia and a close connection to nature and daily life in the book. The traditional Japanese aesthetic concept, ‘Wabi-sabi’, which is about imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete beauty also impressed me.
